Portland

in this simple street scene from our weekend, how many clues can you find that we are no longer in lubbock? let's see...bikes as plentiful as cars, efficient public transportation readily available, sidewalks glistening with rain, trees outnumbering telephone poles, and fall leaves in colors other than brown...just to mention a few. it was a quick, but fun trip to portland, oregon to see dieterich inducted into the pamplin society at lewis & clark college. a great excuse to get out of town and remember how differently life can be experienced elsewhere. we stayed downtown and walked everywhere--along the river, to saturday market, and frequently around the corner where the nearby brewpub was serving an outstanding oktoberfest ale on tap.

Yeah, and I think that green pole is a free power source for electric/hybrid cars to recharge, isn't it? Think it'll be a long time coming before Lubbock gets any of those...
